Is this even a real question?! It’s huge. Now, the things that kids learn about, that’s a different story. I think so much gets missed by going down a checklist of science, math, history, etc. There really are some things that you will never use in the real world. I believe that high schoolers/college students should be taught real world things. I had no idea how to do my taxes or save in a 401K, when I graduated. I didn’t know the importance of managing your credit score. I didn’t come out of school knowing how to do my resume or how to interview for jobs.
I see so many “kids” these days that come in and interview with me, in jeans and a shirt, with no resume, for a professional sales job. I’m sure they are great kids and might even do a great job, but they will get overlooked because of their appearance in the interview. Another thing is, they don’t know how to communicate with people, through relating to them. I think technology has distanced and actually hurt our communication skills, face to face.
At the end of the day, education is the most important thing. I do not envy teachers at all, but I applaud them. There is no way I would be able to do what they do, day in and day out.
